-
- Stefan M. Moser, Po-Ning Chen:*
- A Student's Guide to Coding and Information Theory, Cambridge University Press, January 2012. ISBN: 978–1–107–01583–8 (hardcover) and 978–1–107–60196–3 (paperback).
This textbook is thought to be an easy-to-read introduction to coding and information theory for students at the freshman level or for non-engineering major students. The required math background is minimal: simple calculus and probability theory on high-school level should be sufficient.

Awarded the ETH Medal for an Excellent Diploma Thesis.
This Master's Thesis deals with factor graphs. These are generalizations of well-known algorithms like forward-backward algorithm, Viterbi-algorithm, Pearl's belief propagation algorithm, or iterative turbo decoding algorithm, etc. The thesis investigates the application of factor graphs for analog iterative block decoding of some short length Hamming and Golay codes. All examples are programmed in Java for online simulations.
In the mean time such decoders have been implemented in analog IC-circuits. For further information about the more current results contact Matthias Frey or Patrick Merkli ().
